Enterovirus 71 (EV71) infections can induce the apoptosis of infected cells. One study published in BMC Infectious Diseases recently showed the effect of EV71 infection on apoptosis mechanisms in virus-infected human rhabdomyosarcoma (RD) cells*. The apoptosis of RD cells was examined by flow cytometry, ELISA, PCR array and western blotting and demonstrated the apoptosis mechanisms in the figure left.
